La Bottega, Belfast

Nestled at the top of the elusive Lisburn Road sits a little piece of Italy. Inspired by owners, Francesco and Cecilia’s Italian nationality and time spent in Bologna as students, La Bottega, offers locals the opportunity to experience the heart (or should we say stomach) of Italian gastronomy.

A feast for the eyes and senses, the cafe, deli and mini-market have fast become a community hub for expat Italians and Belfast locals who want to practice their Italian. With an emphasis on Italian produce the counter and shelving was paramount in allowing the space to function. Varying counter heights allow for both use as a deli and a cafe, with a tall counter in place to imitate the casual, drop in coffee culture present in Italian cities and towns.

Shelving offers ample space for storing bags of Rigatoni, Linguine, Tagliolini and Tortiglioni while hanging rails create impact for hanging wheels of cheese and hams. The result is a bustling counter space full of conversation and warmth.

A palette of burnt clays, mineral white counters, terrazzo tiling and warm pendant lighting mimics the chalky tones of Bologna. Paired with a teak toned, expressed grain oak cladding gives the space a warm, mid-century feel reflective of older Italian eateries and cafes.

We’ve fallen in love with Francesco’s cuisine, so if you’re in the area be sure to call in for an Aperol Spritz and Pinsa, in particular the artichoke, Parma ham, salami and mozzarella option, you won’t regret it!

Buon Appetito!
