Cafe Smart, Belfast

Located at the top of popular Belmont Road in East Belfast, sits Cafe Smart, a 10 year old multi-award winning, family run cafe. On their 10th Anniversary, owners Simon and Victoria decided it was time for change and underwent an extensive refurbishment and rebrand in 2020 with Studio Terry. With a passion for coffee, baking and local ingredients our aim was to create a fresh, inviting space where the offering could really take centre stage. Using a contemporary palette of burnt, dusky pinks, off-whites and olive greens, Studio Terry emphasised the existing structure creating a fresh canvas in which light could envelop the space.

A playful approach to texture using brick slips, ceramic tiling, soft leathers and character oaks helped create depth, breaking up the minimalistic backdrop. Lighting is in abundance with bright, natural light engulfing the cafe. Simplistic pendants and wall lights helped give the impression of a lower ceiling, creating intimate seating nooks for relaxing with a coffee. With the hustle and bustle of the Belmont Road always in full swing the addition of a hatch was implemented to cater for passing workers, shop browsers and local Saturday morning park runners.
